Grass - Perennial

Andropogon Blackhawks

Andropogon Blackhawks, also called Big Bluestem is the perfect specimen grass to add height and color to your landscape. In the spring, foliage will appear deep green with dark purple tones and later in summer to fall it will deepen to black tones.

Use in spaces that you want to naturalize, create screening or to provide wildlife habitat. Blackhawks will adapt to a wide range of soils but we still recommend to amend your Georgia Red Clay before planting. Performs best in full sun with well prepared soils for excellent drainage. Water needs are average to dry once established.

Can be used on banks and sloped areas for erosion control and the wildlife will love it.

    Growth Characteristics:
    Native North American grass.

    Care & Maintenance:
    Keep the fertility on the light side as too much will produce a weaker plant that will be more open in habit rather than the dense, strong structure that is desired from this plant.

    * Low Water Requirement:
    After this plant is well established, it has a lower than average water requirement. A good layer of mulch will also help reduce water needs.
