Growth Characteristics:
Sum and Substance in one of the largest hostas available. Leaves can be 16" across. Large mounding habit. Flowers are pale lavender shades on 48 " scapes. Blooms mid to late summer.

Care & Maintenance:
In our Southern Region with heavy clay soils it is necessary to amend the bed area to create planting spaces that are moist and well drained providing improved aeration for the root system. Most hostas will prefer shady, woodland areas but are often tolerant of morning sun conditions. The Sum and Substance Hosta will change color from light green to chartreuse to a brighter gold with increased sunlight. It actually prefers from 1/4 to 3/4 of the day in sun. We would recommend a break from the hottest afternoon hours here in the south. Hostas can be divided in either spring or fall but they can be left alone for years without much attention other than keeping the critters away.
