Sempervivum Carmen

Sempervivum Carmen produces large rosettes tipped in red in the spring time. This is a super vigorous and easy to grow sempervivum. Provide plenty of sunlight and well drained soils for best performance.

Sempervivum are easy to grow and super hardy in the right conditions. Here in our Southern Region they should be planted in gritty or sandy soil mixes that provide excellent drainage. Young plants should be watered 2-3 times a week to establish then, back off to 2-3 times a month for mature plants.

Light requirements are another part of the key to great performance. Morning sun and afternoon shade work best. When temperatures begin to reach 85 degrees it's important to have that afternoon shade for best growth. Sempervivums can tolerate full sun conditions but above 85F they will begin to stress.

The little 'Hens and Chicks" are an enjoyable plant that require little to keep them happy when you have the drainage and light just right. Play around with some and share them with your friends. Great plant for kids to start container gardening.
