BrunneraBrunnera macrophylla
Jack Frost
Brunnera is a great plant for adding texture and form to your winter plantings in containers or window boxes. The very distinct heart shaped leaves are laced with a silver coating and strong green veining all bound by a well defined green margin. The bright blue blooms are a bonus that appear in mid to late spring.
Brunnera is typically found in naturalized areas of woodland gardens or near pond edges. It's an easy to grow plant that requires semi shady, average to moist conditions however, with adequate attention to water the thick leaves can stand up to full sun. This makes for an ideal companion plant for winter combinations in the south but moved to a shadier spot for the duration of the summer.
Brunnera also makes a wonderful cut foliage for floral arrangements.
